Welcome to Askmelah.com, I am a locally born Singaporean. You will see in this website that I am pretty critical of the current batch of Government and they are quite well known for not too kind to those who holds opposing views [updated Oct2014: the latest victim Gintai].  I find them overpaid, aloof ,elitist and extravagant. I do not believe the recent batches of politicians are sincere in ruling this country, it is my personal opinion that these politicians thinks that joining ruling party is a quick ticket to obscenely high paying jobs, unlike the early batches of politicians prior to the millennium who demonstrated sacrifice, commitment and humility.

“Dr Goh Keng Swee told me that I had advance in my career not because I was cleverer than others, but because I was in the right place at the right time. In like vein, he told me that Singapore achieved econcmic progress not because we are clever but that others were more stupid.” – Ngiam Tong Dow in “A Mandarin and the Making of Public Policy: Reflections”

The greatness of Singapore is not just about an effective Government, it also comprises of hardworking (and some may say naive and kind) people, the blessing of a good geographical location, the kindness of its neighbours, a good system left by the British empire (and a great man known as Sir Stamford Raffles) and a great Singapore son Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his lieutenants with their grit and vision in bringing the country from third world to first world economically within 30 years. Unfortunately, we begin to slip in the past few years.

The rich multi-culture and unique Nonya culture is one fine example which give Singapore its richness in great food unparalleled in this part of the word. Sadly as we develop, we are also losing many of our precious memories, cultures (such as dialects, diversity, history, food) and traditional Asian values (such as filial piety, loyalty, humility and respect elders).

It is my hope that this page will bring together Singaporeans and foreigners alike who love this tiny beautiful country together, search for information and articles relating to Singapore.

My favourite quote today

"I am afraid the cruise ship is over capacity limit, and it used to be a luxury cruise ship. The designer’s claim that it is not sinkable, the name is Titanic. There are not enough life boats, no preparation or provision for failure. Thank you Mr Goh for reminding us." - Low Thia Khiang

"Till today, I am still puzzled by why the PAP cannot fight a fair election without gerrymandering, abusing the GRC system, basically, making sure they enter into a boxing ring with an opponent who is expected to fight them with hands tied behind the back. There is a reason why bullies are not popular in schools. Why not be the school prefect?" - Alvinology

"The question to ask is what lies at the root of the discontent or the disengagement between the G and the people. I am going to stick my neck out and say that it is ministerial salaries. I consider it the root of all evil. Serious. It reduces what should be a social compact into a business contract. " - Bertha Henson
