HE BECAME a hero after winning a SEA Games taekwondo gold medal for Singapore in 1993, at the age of 22.

On Friday, Patrick Champion Wong’s reputation lay in tatters after he was fined a total of $29,000 for pimping and bribery.

The former athlete – whose real name is Wong Jing Ching – arranged for women from Uzbekistan to be flown over for prostitution through his Uzbekistani wife Shirinbekova Yelena, who was fined $8,000 on Friday.

He ran his vice operations at a hotel and bribed two security supervisors to turn a blind eye.

But the freelance security escort and taekwondo coach, 40, was caught in June last year after he approached undercover policemen at Orchard Towers and asked if they wanted sexual services from ‘Russian prostitutes’, said Assistant Public Prosecutor S. Pushpa.

The father of one ferried the officers by taxi to Landmark Village Hotel in Victoria Street and introduced them to four Uzbekistani women. Police raided the hotel and arrested Wong and the women.
